Open Space Committee February 23, 2005 / 7:30 pm
Present: Judy Brainerd, Laura Freeman, Sue Haley, Jeff Havlick, Sue Horton, Keith Johnson,
and Dave Read.
Approval of Meeting Minutes
MOTION: Dave moved and Laura seconded to approve the January 19, 2005 meeting minutes.
APPROVED.
Land Acquisition
Mumford
The Mumford property has been purchased.
Saunders
The letter to the Saunders was returned by the post office as undeliverable- perhaps back taxes are owed?
Daniels
The Daniels property discussion has been tabled until the CPA is in effect.
Open Space Management:
Wiley Park Bridge
The topographic survey required for the design of the bridge was done by Schofield Brothers. The Committee will do some research to find design guidelines for handicap accessible bridges on trails. Sue Haley will see what the Seashore uses, we could also talk to the Audubon, Keith will make some calls too. Once we have those guidelines, Laura will supply the Committee with some design options to accommodate kayakers being able to paddle under the bridge without portaging as well as having the bridge be handicap accessible.
Glacial Pond Park Sign
Now that the Mumford property has been purchased the big sign can finally go up.
Old & New Business:
Open Space and Management Plan
Terry Whalen is reviewing the Open Space and Management Plan.
Hatch Property
A spring site walk was planned for this property to plan the location of a new trail leading off of the bike trail to a location overlooking the pond. Discussion ensued with respect to putting in a bench.
Open Space Letterhead
Discussion ensued with respect to obtaining Town of Eastham Open Space Committee letterhead for our future correspondence and setting up guidelines such as all correspondence was on official letterhead, the town administrator receives a copy and the return address is Town Hall.
CPA
Sue Horton mentioned the proposal by Mitt Romney to divert some of the CPA matching funds into some housing tract development. O’Leary would be the representative to contact to speak against this proposal.
1651 Forest
Sue Haley reports there is nothing new.
Conservation Commission
Keith reports there is nothing new.
